Jesus, the King, was among men at a time the majority were both unaware and unwilling to yield to Him. Only very few people knew of His presence and supported His mission. Unfortunately, those who should have been keener on discerning the time and mission of Christ were completely aloof! The Pharisees, Sadducees, teachers of the Law, and the Scribes slipped off the Spiritual radar by rejecting Christ. Jesus Himself spoke to such religious bigots of His day, “You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life (John 5:39-40).” Later, mustering all His voice, Jesus called out for anyone who wanted an abundant experience of the Holy Spirit [John 7:37].
There are many people today who are possibly steeped in studying scriptures, and yet not heeding the call of Jesus both to Salvation and to the abundant experience of the Holy Spirit. Today, He is calling to each one of us—those yet-to-believe, to faith, and believers to come to Him for the Spirit. Let us beware of knowledge about the Savior without experiencing the Savior.
We unblock the way for rivers of the Spirit by removing any hindrance to Jesus in our lives and acknowledging the invitation to come to Him to drink. Say “Yes!” to the invitation to faith, say “Yes!” to the call to come and drink! Say “Yes!” to Him in Prayer today.
