The chief reason why we need to have the Holy Spirit in our lives is to glorify God the Father. Jesus Christ was able to bring glory to the Father because He was empowered by the Holy Spirit (John 17:4-5: I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.) At the climax of His service, Jesus died on the cross, thus being glorified through His death, as the all-sufficient Savior of mankind from all sins.
For the disciples to glorify Christ, they too needed empowerment from heaven. Jesus promised them that they would receive the Holy Spirit to continue the Word of Christ in and through them. The Holy Spirit would bring glory to Christ: But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.” (John 16:13-14).
One way to unblock the Rivers of the Holy Spirit is to desire that your whole life brings glory to God. He is holy, and so, He calls you to holiness: Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. (1 Cor 6:19-20). Pray that your life will glorify God always.
